Dr. Sue examining Casper
Visiting veterinarian Sue Porter is no stranger to Placencia Humane Society activity. In October 2007 she assisted PHS with several animals needing veterinary care between our monthly vet clinics. Following a brief trip to the States, Dr. Porter is back in Belize and is again providing us with valuable assistance.
On Monday, March 3rd, Dr. Sue joined PHS Board member Pamela Keck and together they began the day by checking out a cat with bad breath. When Dr. Porter determined the cat would benefit from a dental prophylaxis (it needed its teeth cleaned), they scheduled surgery with Dr. Figueroa, our Belizean vet for the PHS March clinic.
Checking a dog with a skin condition, they scheduled another surgery at the March Clinic to remove a growth; then treated newly-acquired puppy in Riversdale with its first shots; and finally, visited Lopper - a dog well-known to the PHS crew - that could no longer walk and, sadly, needed to be euthanized.
PHS is extremely grateful to Dr. Sue for taking time her time to assist PHS, pets and their owners.
Without veterinary services available on the peninsula on a regular basis, the knowledge and skill of visiting vets is invaluable. Not only do they allow us to provide care between our monthly PHS Clinics, but visiting vets also enable us to provide services in areas where cost prevents many pet owners from seeking attention at all for their animals. PHS charges pet owners only our cost to replace drugs used by the visiting vets.
