PHS
currently uses the Placencia Village Community Center for its monthly
clinics.
Unfortunately, the Community
Center is often a less than ideal location because of lack of hot
water and adequate lighting, scheduling conflicts and often
conflicting Community Center uses that include the Village's day care
center, polling place, and community events locale. (For more
information, see our Why a New Clinic page.)
Plus, PHS holds little hope of
purchasing its own property. The cost of acquiring property on
the narrow Peninsula is prohibitive, and becoming more prohibitive
every day as foreign investors drive up land prices.
How You
Can Help
In 2006 we
established the PHS Building to raise $55,000BZ to build and furnish
a facility for the Placencia Humane Society. Thanks to the
generosity of many people, we have already raised over $6000BZ.
Resolving
our early challenge of locating a site, the Placencia Village
Council and the Rotary Club have made land available to us in the
new airport complex where units for fire and rescue as well as
emergency medical care will be housed.
With the
site established, we are now gearing up to meet our financial goal.
PHS needs to raise BZ$55,000 (US$27,500)
to construct a concrete block building containing a surgery/ examining
room, a waiting room/office and a small apartment for a visiting
veterinarian,
including electrical wiring, lighting, plumbing, tiled floor, hot and
cold water, covered verandah for additional waiting
area, ceiling fans, stairs and septic tank.
In addition, another BZ$10,000 (US$5,000)
is needed to purchase a surgical table, refrigerator for medicines,
office equipment (2 desks, filing cabinet, office chair, waiting room
chairs), construction of an enclosed area for surgery recovery for
pets, toilet, sink, and lighting fixtures.
Through the generous donation of Marcia
and Peter Fox who have contributed BZ$1,000 to kick-off the PHS
Building Fund,
PHS has raised BZ$6,000 toward the total cost of BZ$65,000 (US$32,500)
to provide Placencia residents and pets with a permanent location for
veterinary care.
Donors who contribute BZ$500 or more
will have their names inscribed on a plaque to be mounted at the new
Clinic.
