PHS Flea Market a Huge Success
Despite a
rainy day, generous donations and a great turnout made the 2nd
annual

PHS
Flea
Market a huge success. Held at the Placencia Village Sports
Field on November 24th, the event brought in $1100
for the continuation
of care
and treatment of animals on the Placencia Peninsula.
Our
sincere thanks go to the Village Council for providing tents to
ward off the rain, and to the St. John’s School PTA
Bake Sale who shared the location with us.
We thank
each of you who supported our event with your donations of
dishes, toys, clothes, video tapes, DVDs, books, knick-knacks,
and various household items. And most of all, we thank those of
you who purchased those items. The
next PHS Flea Market will be held in August, 2008. If you
have anything you wish to donate, please contact Madalon
Richardson at 523-4091.

2006 Flea Market
PHS
held it's first ever Placencia Flea Market on 18 November 2006.
(Apt name, don't you think?)
An
enthusiastic crowd turned out for the event (soon to be an annual
one), which was scheduled to open at 10:00 a.m. However, eager
bargain hunters were already making their purchases by 9!
But,
there were enough bargains for everyone, thanks to all the generous
folk who donated items for this Flea Market Bazaar.
The tents, provided by the Placencia Village Council, were a great
help – erected by volunteers Karl Keck and Bruce Matthews, they
provided great space to set out all the items for sale.
Other
volunteers worked arduously to encourage sales – our thanks to Board
Member Pamela Keck, who supervised the event and was supported by
volunteers Madalon Richardson, Ginger Jones, Alice Brady, Kim
Martens, Stella Matthews and Marcia Fox. Spanish speaking
buyers were assisted by Angelica Alvarado, herself an established
supporter of PHS.
Fund
raising events such as these are only as successful as the
volunteers, who work hard not only to support the event itself, but
continue to work diligently behind the scenes for the welfare of
animals in the area.

The
event raised $1,246.50 in sales. In addition PHS received $97.80 in
donations, $50 in membership dues and $50 in T-shirt sales.
It
was a hugely successful event and our thanks go to everyone, our
wonderful volunteers, the people who generously donated items and
all of you who supported PHS by buying as much as you did.

JANUARY 2008- -WHAT
A FUN TIME WE HAD!!!!!

Yoli's Mom and Grandma
Every fourth
Saturday of the month you can find a capacity crowd enjoying ‘Swing
Time’ night at Yoli's. Lots of friends having good food,
fun and then dancing the night away those good oldies.
There is no
admission charge, just come and have a good time. Funds raised
during the evening benefit the
Placencia
Humane Society and in
January
PHS
funds were increased by $600.25, the funds coming from punch sales
(donated by Yoli), T-shirt sales, mug sales, tote bag sales and a
50/50 raffle in which the winner donated a share of his proceeds
back to PHS.
PHS
is the only registered not for profit organization on the Peninsula;
it is run entirely by volunteers who receive no remuneration for
their time or work - all funds raised go directly to the welfare of
pets in the area.
Our thanks to
Yolie for supporting
PHS
by holding the fund raising event at her Bar and Restaurant and to
PHS
volunteers Other volunteers for the night were Mary Ann and Keith Kaye, Cat and Dale Harshbarger,
Cindy and Jim Weller, Julie and Rick Davis and Madalon Richardson. Our thanks to each of them and to all
the visitors who turned up to support
PHS –
we couldn’t do it without you.

at Yoli's Bar & Grill
You
want to learn the ‘Placencia Hop’? Then put on your cowboy boots and
get to Yoli’s Bar and Grill in Placencia Village.
One evening a month Yoli turns her place over to PHS for a Country &
Western night. No admittance charge, but the night does provide a
chance for all tropical cowboys and cowgirls to support PHS by
purchasing rum punch from PHS (punch donated by Yoli), or a coffee
mug, PHS T-shirt or wine glass.
Many thanks to Yoli for
this creative way of supporting PHS – all the funds raised from the
evening’s event go towards the care of pets on the Peninsula.
Toe-tapping music encouraged everyone
to dance the night away at PHS’s SWING TIME at YOLI’s on Friday
November 24th. It was difficult, if not impossible, not to get up
and dance – the swing music put everyone in the dancing mood.
There was no admittance charge but PHS raised $429.25 through
donations and sale of gift items (mugs and T-shirts). We also gained
one new membership – this is an invaluable way to support PHS and
very much appreciated.
PHS is a totally volunteer organization and relies entirely on
memberships and donations to continue its work of caring for pets on
the Placencia peninsula and surrounding areas. We invite you to
visit our website www.placencia-pets.org for more information and
also to come to next month’s SWING TIME at YOLI’s on December 22nd.
