New Puppy Care Clinic
18 March 2006
The
clinic for February 2006 was chock full of kids with a plethora of
new puppies getting their first shots and check-ups.
So, we thought it might be a good idea
to have some fun with the kids and puppies at the March clinic -
while at the same time imparting a bit of information about new
puppy care.
Thus
was born the New Puppy Care Clinic, featuring puppy washes (and kids
washes, as it turned out).
Children brought their puppies to get
a bath, and in the process learn how to bathe their puppies, check
for ticks, fleas, nails that need clipping and skin diseases such as
mange.
Junior
PHS members provided the kid-power for the program, hauling
water, chasing puppies who weren't so crazy about their first baths,
helping the younger kids get their puppies into the bath tubs, and
making records of who attended, the names and ages of their puppies
and whether the puppies had gotten all of their necessary shots.
Baths
were followed by vaccinations (boosters or first vaccinations) and
then a short get-together to talk about how to keep puppies safe by
walking them on a lead, not tying them up, and keeping other kids
from hurting animals.
All of the children who attended the
New Puppy Care Clinic received special soap to take home to bathe
their puppies, as well as a new leash and collar.
A good time was definitely had by all!
(And hopefully some good information imparted and received.)
